Two Towns Down
Copyright 2007 Richard Page Davis & Michael S. Hysinger
I can’t turn back time to yesterday
I try to leave the past behind
And keep my weary head turned towards the sun
But then some things never seem leave my mind
Tonight I had to take the long way home
This road that takes my by her door
Sometimes the past is not so far away
But this torn heart doesn’t live there any more
Two towns down, there’s a yellow four-room house
That’s where Sarah and I, tried to share our dreams
But we never made it too far
I moved on, but she still calls it home
With another man she’s found
The past can be too close
When it’s (just) two towns down
I keep my distance, I keep moving on
But I just saw her best friend Jane
She told me all the things I wanted to hear
She held back those things she knew would cause me pain
Chorus
Bridge: Eighteen miles away
All the dreams are gone but the heartache seems to stay
I turn to face the sun – and another day
